    Aluminum ladders

How many of you have scrapped Aluminum ladders? I have a bunch of them that are bent and broken. What is the best way to scrap them? Do they need to be cut down to a certain size for more money? Also what catagory of aluminum are they? And what is an average pricer/pound?

Cleaned of plastic and rivots. Any size or shape. Sheet Aluminum. Angle grinder cuts easily. Aluminum stays steady at about .50/lb.

Classed as extrusion actually, and like rca says cleaned of plastic, rivets as well as any screws or non-aluminum parts.
You might want to cut them down to less than 4 ft long pieces (unless it makes no difference where you are taking them, a quick call or just asking them while you are there on a different drop of stuff

like stated above, must be clean. as far as length, short enough to safely transport, most yards are not going to pay you any extra for being under a certain length. if you use a grinder to cut them you are losing some weight with every cut, not a lot but some.

Extruded, $0.60/lb, and at my local yard they would deduct if it is too long to fit in a gaylord. A quick phone call as stated above is your best bet.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

I use a Sawzall. Cut side rails to about 4'. Check for any iron (usually in the steps). It gets classed as extrusion.

Yes, some yards will classify it as extrusion, but I have never seen an extrusion price here, only sheet... That will depend on your yard.

Extrusion, I use a non ferrous blade for a circular saw. I will race any body with an angle grinder. Cut of as nearly as you can to any non aluminum parts. The scrap parts can be further cleaned or sold as is as breakage which us significantly less than extrusion.

As has been said, Aluminum Extrusion is the grade for ladders. Most yards offer a contaminated extrusion price and a clean extrusion price. At our yard contaminated is 50 cents and clean is 60 cents right now.

I understand this completely, but it is how it is here. I don't have short iron or heavy iron prices either. It's very simplified in terms of categories, but I'm fine with that.. Makes sorting have less buckets. Cast Aluminum and sheet aluminum are usually the same prices, and often get weighed together, thrown into a gaylord together and called good.

Aluminum Extrusion by me as well. Over the last 4 years price has been as high as .75 and as low as .29 a pound
Dirty, Furnace, Irony, Smelter Alum. High as .40 and low of .15 a pound

You should recycle aluminum as it is cost efficient. if ladder is fit put it in your recycling bin for service recycling program. Then took aluminum step ladders to a community recycling drop-off center during business hours, place the ladders in the appropriate bins. Finaly sell aluminum step ladders to a any scrap metal facility.

Usually cut the plastic thats riveted to the bottom and take anything that a magnet sticks to off and you should get MLC or extrusions.

Just expalining recycling procedure without cost. I explain Recyciling Drop off centres for wasted aluminium that will sell at least something rather than waste.
