My experiance using the word junk in ad titles.

I list a lot of ads online buying e-waste. I had been listing them titled buying old computers. I was getting more calls with people trying to sell me their working computers than people trying to get rid of outdated ones. So I decided to change the title to buying old junk computers. This wasn't such a good Idea. Went 3 days without receiving a single call or email. So I decided to change the title back to what I was originally using and what do you know. Withing 20 min I had someone from a local school that acquired a load of escrap and his wife said it needed to go. Not even 5 min later had an guy call that had a load desktops keyboards and monitors he needed to get rid of.



Advice from this lesson. Sometimes it pays to take the good with the bad. And don't use the work junk in your ads.

Yea I was wondering the same thing. I've been running the same ad for awhile now. I gotten some good loads out of it but I'm thinking of changing it up a little just to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the info.

Toula, Its worth a shot, Just be sure to word things as professional as possible. Read over it 2 or 3 times after any changes or before posting.

People don't like for their stuff, be it a vehicle or a computer, to be referred to as 'junk'. Instead maybe change your ad to 'working or non-working computers'. Just a thought...

When you add the word working you get 10x the amount of call from people trying to sell you computers for $100

I word mine as unused and Nonworking computers. I get people wanting to sell me working ones for a lot of money and I kindly tell them that I am looking for older and broken ones and then ask if they have anything like that.

Might have better luck using outdated or defective

Also when they tell you what they have before any numbers are said make sure to mention you are in the business of electronic recycling and not resale

Sometimes taking a different approach works.. Instead of "buying old computers" try.. "Make money recycling your computer!" then BAM, hit them with the come to daddy paragraph when they open your ad.

just to clarify, for my notes, is it still ok to use the words junk, scrap, outdated, and defective, in the dating ads ?

Do you find that people are willing to let their old, non-working/unused computers go for a reasonable price? Say $3-5 per tower? Or do you get a bunch wanting more money out of them, residential people that is? I imagine most companies getting rid of old computers have a better clue as their lack of value since computer technology advances at such a rate and parts from computers that are really old have few 'parts' of value if any, generally speaking.

Oh, definitely. An ad such as "Looking to meet an outdated, defective woman" would cause your email to explode.
