Don't confuse the "easy" way of doing things with the best, yes kicking the siding out of inside is easier but I can unscrew it with my 1/4" impact driver just as quick and doing it that way the aluminum is dam near clean by the time its ready to come off. Just plug a few staples at the seams and its worth more than breakage by a long shot. Kicking it out is the lazy mans way of doing. And you lose pieces of aluminum everywhere doing it that way so what really is gained by going the easy route ?

Obviously most people aren't going to get .54 per pound for dirty aluminum but when it is .59 for clean Al I ain't doing the extra work.


We still use the 1/4" bit to remove all the screws first but avoid kicking the aluminum off until the end to prevent insulation and trash from blowing away.

Totally depends on what all is inside and how resourceful you get.

Total Aluminum before cleaned = aprox 400lbs
Copper wire = aprox 30lbs
Copper tubing = aprox 25lbs
Brass = aprox 12 lbs
Steel Frame = aprox 1800lbs
Tin Roof = aprox 400lbs
Misc Steel = aprox 200lbs

Now if you get ambitious, sell the axles on craigslist for $75 each...interior mirrors $5 each...medicine cabinet $10 etc etc

If you are getting an already gutted trailer you are looking at around $500. I once turned a 24ft camper into about $900 before expenses thanks to getting $200 for a working Dometic fridge and $94 for the power converter.
