i was wondering the other day when i had a full load of scrap metal what i would do if i broke down? i have insurance that covers that but i dont know what they would think about a truck load of scrap when they got there, probably be a deal breaker if it had to be towed eh?

I have my own tow truck.....And I work for a tow company as well.

If you have AAA they wont tow you if your carrying a load in your truck. I work for a tow company myself and if someone calls me for a cash tow then ill tow whatever. If its for a contracted company like insurance or aaa I will not tow it...they dont pay enough for me to take the chance of something falling out. When the vehicle is on the tow truck it is on the tow companys insurance and the responsability of the wrecker driver.

we lost a wheel bearing on our trailer one day witha ford van loaded, dumpedthe van on the side of the road and called one of our wrecker services we buy from, he came picked up the vanand hauled it in for me no charge, on a side note we use another wrecker service we buy from to do short hauls for us when we are to busy, a load of scrap i would get on the phone and call everyone i knew with a truck and offer a split of some sort, you couldnt leave it for sure if it was radiators or copper or the like it would be gone before you got back

i would say then i need another vehicle in case that happens, i was thinking a van since i already got a truck. yes that what i have its like AAA coverage.

Last time I checked, AAA would not tow a commercial vehicle at all. Don't know if that is still correct.

We noticed we had a flat after loading 6,000 lbs on our trailer. We decided to go to the service station down the st to fill it with air. First turn the tire went rolling by, we were now on the rim. We carry a spare tire and extra jacks/supplies for such events. We got the spare on and back rolling in leas than a half hour. Tire that fell off had a screw in it that wasn't noticeable, the head had broken off right inbetween the treads. I dreaded an episode like that; unfortunately you have to be prepared for something like that, its inevitable.
I broke down with 3500lbs in my truck
Had to get towed by a medium duty truck..
Got a deal from local town company but it still sucked.

Insurance for a commercial truck that carry's scrap metal is the highest rate.

One of my gooseneck trailers exploded on the highway at dusk during a heavy snow. The hitch buckled when a tire blew and the front of the trailer was sitting on the ground. Had no choice but to hire a semi wrecker because of the liability of a scrap load on the highway. They towed it less than a quarter of a mile and charged me over $ 500. I knew I was taken advantage of, but I could not gamble the safety of other vehicles. I later found out I had over 6 tons of iron on the trailer and the load easily payed for the tow truck. Scrap prices were a lot higher back then.
