    Wheelchairs walkers and crutches

So in my cleanout business I get a lot of these items. Seems that insurance supplies them to most folks that need them so there doesn't seem to be any aftermarket for the walkers and aluminum crutches, so into my aluminum pile they go.

Anybody have any luck selling used wheelchairs? I got a really fancy model recently that I gave to my sister to use when she had her knee surgery, rather than paying the steep rental fees. Wondering if there is a way to sell it when she's done?

I have only got one wheelchair and donated it to VFW. Have sold several walkers on Clist tho.

just remember if you donate stuff like that its a tax deduction for full market value. Worth way more than scrap value that way.

I was of the same opinion Burly. BUT you cam look at it this way.

Scrap Value: $10.00 ish ( for argument sake)

Tax Donation: (Wheel Chair Price X Your
Tax Bracket) = Value in Cash You Save on Taxes
    Link To Prices: https://www.google.com/#q=wheel+chai...w=1366&bih=608

Tax Bracket Married Filing Jointly Single
    10% Bracket $0 – $17,400 $0 – $8,700
    15% Bracket $17,400 – $70,700 $8,700 – $35,350
    25% Bracket $70,700 – $142,700 $35,350 – $85,650
    28% Bracket $142,700 – $217,450 $85,650 – $178,650
    33% Bracket $217,450 – $388,350 $178,650 – $388,350
    35% Bracket Over $388,350 Over $388,350

    $109 X 0.15 = $16.35

    Advertising / Marketing

The advertising value of donating something can be the greatest of any possible use. When you think about a VFW, Church, or Firehall each has many members. These members will here be part of your marketing team and your new customer base. You can also ask if you can place an electronic donation bin on site, host an event, or just post flyers.

I second tax deductions... Not only are you helping others you get the deduction and its a free way to advertise. I think they call that a tri-fecta.

I once worked with United Cerebral Palsy, mostly delivering things such as this to those who needed them. Wheelchairs(including, when available, motorized), walkers, bedside toilets, and hospital beds. It was all donated and given freely to those in need. One of the most satisfying "jobs"(I was strictly volunteer) I've had. There are also several Project Cure collection centers across the country, which provide medical equipment to third world countries.

If you have any schools for children with special needs such as a Boces program,UCP or an AHRC the parents of those children can always use the equipment since most insurance will not cover all the costs for durable medical equipment. The pta's at the schools usually have a parent swap sheet set up for used equiptment that kids grow out of and try to pass it on to others who can use the it. I know that at my daughters school the pta will give you a receipt for tax purposes on equipt that is donated. The programs and schools cant take the donations themselves since most are get grants and state or fed money to by equipt that is used in the school. It is also an insurance liability if they use donated equipt that may be defective and someone gets hurt, but they will get you in touch with the right people to donate what you have...
