ilyaz I sound like you. I don't have a truck or the regular use of one. So from time to time when my garage was getting full of shred I would call a guy to come pick them up, stacking it outside isn't an option for me. But then I collected a bunch of totes for smaller shred items and started stacking the cases neatly to save room. When I went to the scrap yard I would load up (in my minivan) the copper, aluminum, whatever else I was taking then fill the rest with the totes of shred and cases. The first time I went I ended up with 42.00 of shred. Plus 355.00 for everything else. If stack right and with thought you won't damage the interior of the van. I feel it's worth it, more than pays for the gas to and from, plus some, just in shred.

Im with ya Ace. 98 mercury sable and the family Odyssey. Whenever the wife gets new bedspreads for the kids i take the old ones and use them like moving blankets when i haul in towers so i dont rip up the interiors. Lay them flat load the shred then throw a blanket or two over it.

I might give it a try. When I go to the yard I usually have more than half of my space taken up by the good stuff: copper, alum etc. So not much space for steel. But I might try filling it up with the case and see how much extra cash I get for those

Only you know what works for you, but it doesn't make sense to give away even some lowly shred if you're going to your yard with less than a jam-packed van. If nothing else, you'll get gas money out of it.

I'm a mini-van driver, too, and I can tell you that you can fit a BOATLOAD of material in there with some practice. I pull the seats out if I have a bunch of stuff, and the low loading height is nice when I have appliances.

If you really wanted to maximize the space you use in shred, you could stuff the cases with smaller shred items, and steel cans. You could still be able to stack them, and you could pack quite a load. But that's just what I would do if I was in your situation. Gotta love having more pieces of paper in your hand when you walk out the door.

Good thinking! Not sure why I had never done that. I can smash down my case's from cd drives and floppy drives put them in the cases and put the covers back on. Nice suggestion
