AKA The Bullet Board, suggestions please

Acquired this Hewlett Packard confirmation/diagnostic fixture board that is engineering test equipment (ATE). Gold pins resemble .22 bullets. Board weighs about 14 pounds. What I am thinking about is well i would just like to hang this on my wall as an art piece, but I have to scrap it. So to maximize should I sale complete or break pins off and sale separate? I broke off a couple pins to see what they consist of.

That is a "bed of nails" also known as "clamshell" testing. Those pins should be gold plated. The one you have looks like it is NOT board specific and that is good. You may want to leave it as is and put it on Ebay using the two terms I gave. If that fails, pull the pins and sell as gold plated. Honestly, I am not sure which would gain the bigger price.

The pins are large so not much surface area per pound, so less money per pound than regular pins.

Ebay has alot on newb's and unknowledgeable people, i think it will go possibly as high as $1000 depending on if you can get a few idiots bidding each other up. $500 is a very conservative number for that board on ebay.
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

Pins are gold plated on the board for sure. I was planning an ebay post for this one just was told to pick off pins first, but I was thinking I would get more if I left them on the board. This one would be hard to sale without doing ebay because I would be to curious to see what it would bring in an auction. Always looking for material that will start a bidding war. If the price is right though I would skip ebay no doubt.

Contact a gold processor and see what they will pay, then ebay, then scrap the hell out of it.

I think it would be cool just to get it refined and get some gold back.

i think its worth alot more on ebay than having it directly refined, like i said before not much surface area there

surface area x thickness of plating = yield

low surface area per pound = low yield

Think about it like this if you sell it for $800 thats 1/2 ounce of gold you could buy. If you have it refined your not even gonna get 1/4 ounce from that board.

I wouldn't think that there would be enough board material for a refiner to even be able to mess with. Don't they like bigger loads of material??

That is very true, you will get more on ebay out of it. Dollar-wise, it's always more beneficial to sell something like this on ebay. I sell a lot of material that I get, but I have also been harvesting some things to be refined. Why? It doesn't make much sense, but I just like the idea of seeing the product of something that is collected. Maybe I just like busy work

There is probably enough material for a home refiner to run it.
