Perhaps someone can answer this question.

I am trying out both Quickbooks and Quicken. Trying to see which one will be easier and quicker to utilize.

In quicken, I added a customer payment, but instead of showing green/black it is showing in red with a negative sign. But if I click on cash account that I deposited the money into, it shows a positive balance.

Is there a reason why in one area it is negative, and the next, it is positive? Right now, It is a bit confusing.

Thanks was looking at quicken or some sort of program along those lines. Just wanted to see how many people track it and what they were using.

I use excel, as well as, Quickbooks. Our business also has an accountant who helps us file our taxes and keep track of profit vs. taxes we need to pay.

Quicken does offer a free version of financial software called Mint, but I'm not comfortable with that since it requires using their cloud. I don't want to take a chance of it being hacked.
If you look for the 2010 and older Quickbooks Simple Start you can find it to download and use.

    Hey all,

Im a linux geek at heart! I love software that I dont have to pay for. For all those who said that you have quicken or quickbooks, I wanted to offer another alternative that is out there for FREE! Yes I said free.

It is called GNUcash. It is a free (open source = General Public Licence). It is able to be ran on Window, Mac, and Linux. It is what I use to trac my spending for scrapping and for my personal finaces. It can do everything from simple checkbook to double entry Business Accounting.

I hope that you will give it a try. You can even import quicken files and quickbooks files.

Why pay for something when you can get it for free!

Mines a generic tablet I got out of a bunch from my Aunt's. Free pens too to keep track. No calculator, just free scratch pads for adding up the figures.

Screw any kind of computer program, I barely remember to make time to do the tracking manually let alone sit at the computer and do it.

Oh, and a stapler to staple receipts at the back of the tablet into.

This all goes into a zippered notebook type thingy I picked up scrapping.
