    "shred"

    I made this thread to discuss& learn the limits of "shred",
    What the yards will or will not classify, or for that matter, Accept certain items listed as shred,
    What are some of the items that are surprisingly takable
    what items will be turned down?
    what are the best Money making items for this category?

    For example;
    1. Will yards take cushion items (furniture/ matresses) that have a frame inside of them WITH the cushion still on them?

    2. Will yards accept metal shred items that are blended with plastic parts?
    share what you know please!(:
    thank you!

    My yard that I go to will not take hide - a - bed couches but will take toasters and answering machines or printers with no further break down in shred steal.
    Just for example. My motto with them is if it is light and has metal it goes in shred. If its heavy and has little metal it needs to be separated. only dealt with a few yards so not sure if this is every where. Been working on this relationship with my yard for over a year now. Guess i should buy them donuts or something one of these days! hehe

    You need to check with your yard as far as their limitations, every yard is different. What works at mine won't necessarily work at yours. Check these links also.

    Yards by now won't take steel fencing or mattresses (even with the pad removed) they say it clogs the shredder that they send the stuff to...

    The yards by me are pretty liberal. They take a quick glance in the truck and tell you where they want you to dump it. It helps to have a good relationship with the guys at the yard. They are much less likely to hassle you if you have some marginal stuff on the truck.

    No matresses with padding, no crt or flatscreens, no tires,no wood. Any tanks like extinguishers, propane etc must be cut in half. Most other stuff is taken with plastic attached as long as the majority is steel.

    My yard has a sign - "No stinky frigs."

    They won't take refrigerators if they are nasty.

    Never tried to scrap a mattress, but if I have fencing, I take it to a yard that has their own baler, and it goes in there. They don't want it if it's vinyl coated though.
