due to the drop in price of gold and since the last hold out buyer has had to reduce the price of "small" socket boards. Many servers dedicated to specific use (particularly IBM)
use small 2 socket mother boards in their servers and often contain less ram then other servers. IBM is known for high prices but also known not to over do their servers. (they do more with less, in some cases , a lot less). know what your doing when buying servers for scrap.
Also if you have an opportunity to buy military grade servers they contain a Faraday cage impregnated with lead that weighs about 20 to 40 lbs on its own.
when buying dedicated computer systems, like those found in hospitals found on the portable systems they push around the hospital or those found on specific purpose equipment be aware they too contain only what is necessary to preform the function they are designed for. Dell is big in this with their mini towers. I have found the scrap value to be in the range of $8/$10 so I price them at about $3 ea. depending on the Quantity.
