    Here is a tip.

Since I usually ask questions. Here is something I have learned about the scrap business from recycling our scrap metal in my normal job.

The best prices are not going to come from the guy at the scale when you hit the yard.
If you have repeat scrap that you can produce even if it is only a few times a year talk to one of the actual buyers before you bring it in.
There is a big difference between steels. The buyer at the yard is a general buyer and may or may not know this. The buyers handling the industrial accounts they do. You have to let them know that you know it or they will screw you.

Old news but call around. Some yards get in trouble to meet contract requirements to the foundry. They will pay the maximum amount they can.
You can make money 2 ways.
    1 - Do what others won't.
    2 - Do what others can't.

So basically know what the buyer is paying and if they are way below that, then call them out?

In a way. "I will give you $350 a ton".
Me - "Really?" "have to think about that".
Buyer - " I can only do that for this month".
Me - "well I understand" "I tell you though this is 52100 vacuum degassed bearing steel we are talking about." "I mean you do realize that right?"
Trust me he already knew what he had.
