Hopefully they are the old, heavy type instead of the thin sheet metal ones. While I typically advocate re-using items, the condition you describe suggests they are good candidates for the scrap pile. I have a couple suggestions:
1: Put an add on craigslist listing them just as you described, plus using keywords like "
scrap metal" or other stuff. You may get someone local that wants them for something other than scrap (which should bring more money) or others that will take them to the junk yard for cash. You wont get as much as if you hauled them yourself, but someone else is doing the heavy lifting.
2: Get your local PTA or a group of people to donate time/trucks/trailers to haul them off to the scrap yard and donate the proceeds for new lockers. You are looking at about $.10 per pound depending on what your local yard pays.
