It was a large server UPS.
Board fried out in it. It had four battery modules (each with 5 or 6 small Pb batts), but my guy kept two of them because they tested out fine.
He is the IT Admin for a hospital, and I was pretty d@mn glad he is a former USMC still in fighting form, because that mutha was HEAVY. The transformer was about 80lbs.....it had a plaster(maybe) core that came out easily enough when the copper started coming out. Didn't have the toughness or mass of epoxy for sure.

Hey Bear,
are you talking about the large UPS' that have an inverter in them? Or ALL UPS's? What do you do with the inverters?

Here is one.. just like yours... first layer of copper it was 11lbs of copper,, and then the second layer of copper was just a bit more.. not much..
but it came out of a server port for pluggable items.. not really a backup.. just allows you to plug more componets without the lead acid battery..
The whole unit weighed in at 112lbs after metal and the copper transformer,,, and all the itsbitsy stuff.. I came out ahead.. I only paid 8.00 for the whole thing,, I knew it didn't have batteries in it,, told them there a hung of metal in it.. so.. here a few pictures... its a nice score.
just to give people an idea.. first layer is the tape.. and then copper ,,, and then tape.. and then copper

What are these out of?

they are server rack power supplies.. basically.. it allows you to plug in more then one perphieal at a time.. I belive it had a total of 8 plug in.. like a big power supply basically.. and the cord that plugs into a wall is 220
I got a big server UPS and am wondering if it is possible to rewire for 110v? Mike.

I'd suggest trying to find the specs and user manual, maybe search for a schematic

I be trully honest.. I don't think 110 will be able to push thru that loops.. if it able to probably won't be as clean making a 220 is really simple... takes two breakers, 30amps will do... and one a pair of 10gage to a 220 outlet and wire it according... its not that expensive... and You will actaully save money... in electric.. ;-) figure that one out.

Hey guys, first post here however this is something I am somewhat familiar with (well their use rather than disassembly.)
They are referred to as Toroidal Transformers and are generally used in specialty power applications...
Also PS.... big ones like these can be relatively expensive depending on the intended application/rating...

My yard bought mine 8 cents a pound. Said it's cbm. Well is it really?Anyone ever disassembled one of these big honking transformers? If so, how, and what was the inside like? I messed with this one a little bit, but I have no dern idea how to EVEN approach disassembly..... and I thought that there was nothing I couldn't take apart!!
I even bounced it off the concrete driveway a time or two pretty hard, not even a dent!

My yard buys mine along with motors and other transformers for .22 a lb.
8cents, you could do as well throwing it in the shred pile. Same price.
