I have some old coax. The core is copper. I have had this for a long time and forgot I had it (cleaning out garage).
Anyway took it to my yard about 35 lbs worth. Yard says they won't take coax. Did not get a really clear answer on why. This stuff is medium grade insualted by my judgement.
Any one else have a problem with yard not taking coax?
You can make money 2 ways.
1 - Do what others won't.
2 - Do what others can't.

The yard probably doesnt want anyone screwing up and buying the steel coax version. I have noticed a lot of yards leave the scale guys in the dark and usually dont let them decide. But thats in my town.
I heard lowes sells a wire stripper just for coax and its inexpensive, but manual.
My yard takes it but only pays $0.05, I usually end up stuffing the coax into gutted pc's along with any other shred I can fit in there.

My yard takes it but i mix it in with a load of light metal (tin). My yard pays me tin price for it.

The steel stuff I mix into the shred, the copper core stuff I have sold for .50 a pound as low recovery wire.

my yards wont even look at it, they told me there is not enough copper recovery with all the insulation to be worth buying it.

Copper clad coax i throw in with steel as well, but not copper coax. Id hold it until i find a buyer that pays more than shred price for it. Or strip it if you got the time and tools. Im just that stubborn when it comes to copper..

If you use a hook knife in a box cutter it strips pretty easy

I strip the black cover first and take the aluminum mesh off. Then I lay a utility knife on an angle to the white core plastic and slice it off down to the copper center. Easy!

The "aluminum mesh" is actually tinned copper.

There is some coax out there that has alum. mesh with a tin foil backer.
Catagory = cheap.
