Look at what everyone else is scrapping and do the opposite. There is a gold mine out there in scrap that nobody ever talks about. Go to your local newspaper and see if you can buy their litho ($0.70 lb.) or go to all your local machine shops and try to buy their tungsten carbide ($10.00 lb.) or your local shooting range and buy their range lead ($0.41 lb.) and brass shells ($2.02 lb.). Most of these companies aren't scrap saavy, and would be happy to have someone take this unwanted "junk" off their hands, while also making a little money.

It's not gonna happen overnight. Most forum members have fostered a relationship for months, if not years before they landed the account.

Be open and honest with people. Be on time. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

And finally...it takes money to make money. Don't think that dollar bills are going to start falling from the sky. Invest in sweat equity and it will pay dividends.

Like any business you need to have a steady flow of regular customers, you did not say where you are located big city or small town, the best source of steady customers in my experience are auto body and repair shops, try to develop a couple of regular stops, most shops are looking for a scrap man that they know will pick up there scrap on a regular basis, show the guys you are comeing around say mon wensday Friday if you keep at it, the ice breaker pick up will happen, stay positive the other ideas before me are all good the key is to have your regulars and then fill in with the rest, good luck auto tech,s love donuts,in the morning.
