Unbolt the motor from the deck and turn them over to take the gas out. Just pour the gas from the mower into a funnel that goes into a container. The same for the oil, or you can drain it out of the oil pan through a drain plug somewhere on the bottom.

...then I'm pretty sure you can drop off the old oil at one of your local auto parts stores. several around here have free drop offs for that stuff. that is, if you can't reuse it in your own equipment?

Our lawnmower repair shop uses a suction style turkey baster that you buy at the dollar store. It has a suction bulb on the top of it.
You can suck about every drop of gas out of it. Don't have to worry about tipping it over and spillage.

I put my used oil into a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, and when it starts getting near full I take it by an auto parts store to be recycled. Until it's full, and after it's had time to settle out, I skim oil off the top to fill my chainsaw chain oil bottle etc

The twist on/off spout from a red gas can will screw onto most lawnmower gas tank cap. Put the mower on a table or so and dump the gas into the gas contaner and put in your working lawnmower. I havent bought gas for the mower for 2+ years now.
As for oil, dump it in a drip pan like said and bring to auto store

I have seen people fab up a nice table to lay parts on to drain oil and other fluids. It is usually fairly small like 2 foot by 2 foot maximum and has a top made from expanded steel and it all funnels into a 5 gallon bucket underneath.

Back where I lived before there was a local auto parts store that had a designated day every month to take all of this stuff free.

When I lived on the farm growing up we poured out the old oil around fence posts. It killed the weeds and protected the posts from moisture. I am not recommending this, but I'll bet that there are some old time farmers that still practice this.

I think all our auto parts stores are doing the recycle think with the used oil, maybe their getting paid to recycle it. Hmmm
We seem to be getting an over abundance of water in our gasoline. Even to the point of throwing a can of Heet into the tank every other fillup.

    *Facepalm*

Omg, I NEVER even thought of that! how many mowers have I tipped and spilled gas AND oil out of in my scrapping lifetime!!

I learned to put a piece of duct tape over the gas cap holes and removed the engine and then tip out the fluids but I still spill them.

Dang, I can't believe I never thought of this.
