Do you get more money taring a vacum apart and sorting or just cut the cord and throw the whole thing into shred???

You can type vacuum into the search box and come up with several threads about this. Some people pull the motor out and some don't. It really depends on how your local yard will buy them. My local yard buys them all as dirty aluminum so I just cut the cord and put them in that. Talk to your yard and you may be able to get better than shred for the whole thing minus cord.
^^Why is the yard buying them as dirty aluminum? there is no aluminum in a vacuum, they are plastic and steel.
Scrapper, Scrap Yard Worker, Horse farm worker, Cooler Puller and just plain ''tired''
Some of the momor housings are cast alu.
Vacuum motor housings are steel, not alum. But some of the motors will be (aka crap) alum wound
Hi Newattitude.... I sold them some of the old 60's vacs that actually had aluminum housings and aluminum pipes on the hoses. When I brought some newer ones in, they put them in the same place. I asked if that was ok and they were fine with it. Since then, every vacuum I've brought in has gone into that pile. I'm happy with it because the electric motor price for me is only 3 cents more than dirty aluminum so I make almost as much with no tear down.
DD1700 is right on the motor housings, and I think a few companies still make them with the cast outer housing. Any Kirby I've ever seen has a lot of cast aluminum
The best way to find out what you can put where is really get to know the yard employees and ask them the best way to do things. It will end up being better for you and for them. I think it's also a factor of how much aluminum they get in their dirty aluminum pile, a lot of nearly clean can be offset by some really dirty. I do bring in some heavier aluminum pieces with not so much plastic or steel usually in the same load. Also, this is the pile my computer power supplies end up in and the only aluminum in those is the small heat sink on the board.
Other yards may not treat vacuums like this, so it's better to ask.
^^Ah, I see. I have only ever found a couple of those Kirbys that are mostly aluminum but they still wanted me to get as much metal/plastic off as possible. and there is one other brand where the whole bottom area is mostly aluminum but that goes as cast. You are lucky to get to toss the full vacuum in the pile rather than having to break it down.
todays sweepers that are all plastic and metal one yard lets me throw as shred the whole thing.
