    My first motor tear down

I tore down my first electric motor yesterday.
I did watch the video on here on how easy it is to do. The videos on her are really great !
The motor was good size 8 hp.
In the video the fellow cut one end of the windings with a bolt cutter.
Cut a few strands of assembly rope, straightened the copper at one end and just pulled it through in one nice chunk boy was that simple. Not so for me.
I did not have bolt cutters so I cut it like he did with my cut off tool. Did the job nicely.
It was real difficult to straighten the copper because the copper was recessed around 1 1/2 inches.
I did finally complete the mission, a few hours labor ( I'm retired no big deal)
Several cuts and slashes in my hands should have worn gloves.
My wife came down to the garage to ask me what all the cursing is about , and she wanted to know if I needed first aid with all the blood on the motor. ( I'm older than dirt, just bump me and I start bleeding )
And what a mess I had once done.
My second motor went a little easier but still quite a bit of effort.
I did end up with a five gallon bucket filled to the top with copper.
Now is this copper considered number one prepared ?
I am not sure how to separate the copper, I have some pipes, some shower copper trays and some fittings.
And I also have some wire that has had the insulation burned off of .
    How to separate ?

The copper that came out of the motor might be #2 being that it is varnished.
The fittings might be brass, don't know if your yard will throw the pipe and copper together.

all motor and field wire will be varnished and is #2. the bigger stuff and solid pieces is maybe #1, you might need to get with the yard you'll take it and ask them where they draw their lines. The burned wire might be a prob since most yards won't take big bunches of it, but you can probly mix it with other wire/copper that isn't burned and be ok, maybe hose it off a bit(there's some threads that speak of using other things to clean it up a bit) If wire is larger than a #2 pencil lead it's usually #1

The shower copper trays are like the shower stall floor or soap holders? If they are decorative they may be worth more than scrap to a builder or interior designer
