Prices are gonna go down again next month. Just a heads up. I have no clue by how much but I am guessing a significant drop. When are we gonna hit the bottom????? This whole year has been a mess for anyone in the scrap industry.

Thanks for the heads up, been looking for your insider info on prices.

If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Does that include gold and other precious metals?

I've been holding out for prices to go up, BUT...
Standing offer around here to sell my stash of copper for $3/lb. I'd been figuring on October or November. Looks like that's not going to happen and I'll keep building the hoard for next year. I guess I'll run in some iron next week, though. Just got the truck out of the shop this afternoon for brake rotors/pads and brake line -- $802. I need some income to offset the expenses.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
Thank you for your insight.. seems it came a bit later than last year.. Any insight on how far down they are whispering? Last year in my area we went from a peak of $240 to a low of $140 (So a $100/ton) swing over the winter months. Thanks in advance!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Yeah, I was going to take in my copper tomorrow since I read of Copper Heads post of his stash getting stolen and now I'm paranoid. But I'll call before I go and if prices are that low looks like I'll be clearing a spot in the garage.
We only had a drop in shred of only $15 a ton. Down from 225 to 210 a ton. I was looking at my numbers from the past and the trend seems to be prices drop in Oct. a slight increase in Nov. and then goes back up in Dec. This may not be true for all areas, but thats how its been going on around here.
Prices are consitently dropping in central pa and I'm running out of room and probably can't wait much longer to take it in. When do the prices usually go up?
Cars are down to 11 a hundred here and that is for a complete vehicle and converter on the car..
Trying to ride a market just gets you in trouble. Granted for smaller stuff you can hord up IF you have the cash flow is fine...but chasing $10-20 a ton on shred is just silly. It is dollar cost averaging...I get it in, I take it to the yard...I can always turn that money by the time someone hording makes $20 by flipping yard sale stuff ect.
One thing to hoard a few buckets of copper, but steel...by the ton...really? For $20?
Cashed out today and I was shocked at the price of p+g $230.00/ton http://i1332.photobucket.com/albums/...psb25600d3.jpg Rhe receipt is hard to read so ill just tell you what it says. 120 lbs of shred @ 190/ton =11.42 240 lbs of p+g @230.00/ton=27.60 3 lbs of #1copper @ 2.90/lb=8.70 43 lbs of #2 copper@ 2.71/lb = 116.53
Ok talked to one of my yards today as I took a run in. Steel here in Central Indiana has dropped $20/ton to $200/ton.. but my yard manager told me in the next week or two it is supposed to spike up to "a level we haven't seen in a long long time" My suggestion is that you guys make daily calls to your yard- or if you have a good relationship with them- see if this factoid will indeed be true in your area as well! As usual I don't count on it.. nor expect that to last a good long while- but if we can get a spike and we can all profit from that- I'd say it is worth the conversation/phone call!
That would be awsome if it spiked next week. That way i can get rid of my 3 cars and put the money into a new truck. Just in time for trades school.
ive got a bit of cast aluminium that im holding on to
it was R12.50 per kg a month ago
and now its around R8.50 per kg
i think i have close to 100kg's
and that translates into quite a big difference
so i m holding on to it
and hoping the prices go up soon
its same story for all the non ferrous metals here
only steel seems to still be close to what it was a month ago.
I'm not trying to be rude or an a@# but were do you get your info. The yard I use for my steel(shred) is still at 165 per ton and it has been there for several months now. I went to another yard about 4 days ago with copper and brass and thier steel price just went up to 180 per ton. I'm not saying that prices wont be going down I just saying it hasn't yet.
Well you have a miss here piston, which surprises me you usually right bout the prices, yards around all went up 15-30 a ton accross the board.
Alvord iron and salvage
3rd generation scrapper and dam proud of it
Appliances went down here from 210 ton down to 175.
Also alum cans went down .10 to .50
motors went down .02 to .23
batteries down .03 to .22
