    How I get PC Scrap

Some ppl asked how I got some of the loads I got so I'm more than happy to explain. I also apologize for the delay in answering everyone.

Basically I called up local PC shops, even some in states close by me and I offered them 1$ per PC/laptop and etc. I said I'm looking to purchase junk equipment... It depends on who you call. If you big commercial companies you won't get anything. If you call regular shos with lots of stuff you'll make good money.

Another note is, make sure you bring it to the best scrapyard available with a owner you can deal with not a company that won't negotiate!

So if you hv any questions let me know! Also, what are the ways you guys buy E-Scrap I'm eager to find out your methods!

Iv been constantly emailing/calling people offering 4-5 for junk computers. Havent picked up a single one. They are expecting like 50-100 for their old computers. People think their junks gold.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

From my research, it depends on your area. If you hv lots of competition, people will be expecting more money.

You may hv to drive 50-200 miles out of town to get it. That's what I do. Also tell them your prices are based upon the quality of the Pc's cause the yards pay you differently if a PC is missing a hard drive, ram or etc.

you need to make sure you tell them "NON" working or broken computers...also call the guys that do cleanouts and offer to buy their stuff....same with storage places that sometimes have a few items left (not the non payment units that they auction)......just a couple of ideas....by specifying non working, water damaged or broken, they then think well maybe it IS worth something and not just throw it out.

I noticed today that a local paper shredding company is now advertising that they will pick up your e-waste and only charge you .50 cents a pound.

I need to figure out how to get that gig!

I networked with people, talking to them, give them a card. It has generated some scrap, not getting rich with them. My steady is my trash company that I haul off their ewaste and buy their computers. Some of the scrap, (heatsinks-carcasses) goes back to them at reg. prices. Also hit up the yard sales for left-overs. With a card you might get some scrap from them.

As many have said, network. Try not to close a deal in the first few seconds of conversation or email. Find out a little about their company try to find something to motivate them

Let me give you an idea,

"Can, I talk to Steve the manager"
"Hi Steve, this is Jeremiah. We spoke through email a few weeks back. I noticed you guys did a fundraiser for the boy scouts last summer I wanted to ask if you were interested in fundraising for them again?
"I currently buy old computer equipment for $.20 per pound, I would be willing to do all the hauling and shipping and donating to the boy scouts if you were interested in donating the items"
Just a thought, let me know if you're interested

I think email communication is very effective once you have established a relationship with a business. I don't think much of email as an introduction. Personally I rarely open any email from a source I don't already know. Mike.

So I thought I'd put out what's been working for me since jord is now getting into E-Waste.

I've had great luck through a community Facebook garage sale site (actually a few). I think a point here is that I live in a small town of 10,000 with a few outlying smaller cities within half an hour. I've had success (but not as much) through Craigslist. I put out messages that I'm buying old/broken computers for up to $5 each. I also keep an eye out on the site (and so does my wife). What's really helped me is that I've made it clear that I want any computer, and I'm willing to pay. The Facebook page is a really friendly group, and once I've established myself and people remmeber me, they start sending me leads so I don't have to check Facebook all the time.

There are many times when someone has said they have a bunch of old electronics including a computer. The scrappers (metal only) ususally ask for a PM. Someone will tag me in the post, and mention that I pay. BAM, I get the scrap, even though I wasn't first in line. I think what set me apart is one of the first people asked - are you sure you want this? It doesn't have a hard drive and won't work. I told her - If you found it in a lake, covered with lake gunk, I would still buy it. Well, that statement stuck with a lot of people. Now they know me. The computers aren't delivered to me, but I get a good frequency through there. And anytime someone asks for computers on there, I reach out to them and find out their angle. So far, I'm the only one in my county that does E-Waste that I'm aware of.

I will say that I spend time on Facebook answering anyone's computer questions when I can. It's about relationships. I've also given away computers from time to time through the site.

My largest score to date came when I replied to a Craigs List add offering $25+ hard drives. I offered $15 and stuck to it until he accepted the price. I figured with 25 hard drives he has to have a lot more stuff - maybe I could buy the old junk. So we got to talking a little bit, and he had just taken in a load of computers to the scrapyard for steel only. I told him we'd do well together. Ended up stuffing 11 computers (mostly gutted but some were complete, 4 rack telecom switches, 2 UPS's, 3 lap tops (2 P1 and a 486), and 30 hard drives. I ended up spending $55 instead of 15, and the deal was much better.
