tamper proof bits

I've been running into these the past week since I picked up a handful of the old car style cell phones and some cable/satellite boxes.

What i've been finding that works is a screwdriver will fit between the tamper pin and the wall of the insert bit. The great thing is that none of these usually have much torque on them, so they are easy to back out. If it breaks, it breaks off the tamper pin, which then allows you to go back to a standard socket. I did ruin one flat head screwdriver (a lifetime guarantee Craftsman) doing this this week.

FWIW, beats spending $50 on two sets of tamper proof bits. I'm sure you can take the time to break off the pins, but I feel that this is faster (for me). YMMV

I forgot about HF. I'll have to pick that up too next time I go... I need a small scale anyways .

100 Piece Security Bit Set

I used to have a vending/arcade machine route and many machines use security bits. I bought 2 of those HF bit sets and for the money it's not bad honestly. If it breaks you're not out much. Beats buying a real set plus it has a bunch of odd ball sizes and weird sizes you don't normally come across. I had a ratcheting snap on screwdriver I would use for a driver and the crappest bits ever. Never had an issue.

Find a good hardware store and you can get most any size you want from bulk for like 0.99 cents, and those ones will fit your drill and don't break

I do this with certain sat boxes. Have the security screws, more fun to bash the corners, then search around for my bits. lol.

bought a set on sunday, haven't used them yet because I ran out of thigns with security bits.

I have been smashing AC adapters for the wall plugs.

I pretty much have my batch processed. just down to printers and TVs...

I hope at least one of the yards is open during my holiday shutdown, but I have a feeling it isn't.
