Generally, a demo bid includes all the scrap (ie another way they make money on a job), assuming they are tearing the whole thing down. But no reason not to ask, you never know what the real deal is unless you ask!

Someone is gutting a building across the street from my office. I asked if they had any metal in the roll off. They said go for it. So far I've pulled out about 50# of romex and still counting. Sometimes people aren't willing to do the extra work of separating and taking it to the yard if the roll off is right there. Same reason we see scrap curb shopping. So I say always ask.

If they're throwing out the electrical stuff, grab the switches and receptacles as well. It's easy to get the brass with a few hammer blows. The last pile I broke down had 13 - 16 grams of brass per (about a nickles worth). It's like beating the deposit out of them.

I've been on jobs which during demolition phase had upwards of a dozen large roll-offs, which they couldn't get hauled off fast enough, all going to the dump. One imparticular project had major amounts of brass laden furnishings
