Advice needed for the removal of CPU/RAM/VIDEO slots on a motherboard.

I have a question for you.
I am set on doing as much of the refining process as I can, and therefore do not care if a mid/high-grade board is devalued.
So.
How can I best remove the CPU/RAM/VIDEO slots from the motherboard? The long black/tan/white plastic slots that have pins inside with slight traces of gold on them.

At the moment, I am trying to pry/smash them off with a screwdriver/hammer. This currently results in a large amount of damage to the pins themselves, and they usually go flying to the unspeakable corners of my bench, never to be found again.

Is there a better way to do this?

You could try to desolder it, or what i do is break the plastic with diagnol cutters and with needle nose pliers yank them out of the board and it works fairly well

Why spend the time for a small return? Better off finding a buyer for the boards.If these are Pent. 4 mother boards especially socket 775 then the gold content is not high.Your labor is not worth the time.

There is also the sand bath method i think it's called. I know it's been talked about on here, an there is a video on youtube for it.(Boring but..shows you how to do it.) I think it mighta even be BC who mentioned it on here.

Basically your heating the board in sand with a grill, once it melts the solder, grab tongs, tip it into a tray or dish with sand, everything falls right off.

I'd listen to BC tho. Just another way to do is all I'm offering. He's much more experienced, an my goto guy for any questions on this sort of thing. Sure others who do this will chime in.
