I do scrap for a living have for years, I run a one ton cube at the moment, but have used throw away trucks often over the years. Right now I can't see getting away with anything for less than a $1.00 a km (everything in). To run a truck in top condition is about $1.40 km (1 ton). Have to consider everything when pricing if a job is worth doing, repairs, insurance, etc. For sure there in no money anymore in running around picking up one piece at houses for free. Might be ok the odd time if it falls within the route you are going.

Lately I go after everything reasonable. Contacts are starting to talk about me all over due to my driving. Time I don't take in effect as I don't have another job to be doing so when I'm not fishing or something I'm working. I also find it very fun to drive a truck around picking stuff up so I don't see any negatives unless you go way out if your way for a dishwasher or something.
