Using silicone

Don't throw away your items that are fixable with silicone. I was surprised that it even worked on my coffee cup, but it's held for over a year. Yes, we can all afford a new cup at Goodwill for 25 cents, but it's fun to fix things and the younger generations need to learn that lost practice. A penny saved is a penny earned and Lord knows I've wasted a few.

I completely agree with you Yunkman about the need to fix instead of replace (except if everyone does it, where will I get my scrap from???) but I would caution you about using silicone on anything you eat/drink out of.

I work with silicone all the time and I'm not sure how easily it will dissolve/transfer into food items...just a heads up, I don't know of any cases where anyone got hurt.

They have food grade silicone make sure your using that and Im not sure if fish tank grade is but not construction/building grade type it will leak toxins.

Thanks for the heads up on that (never even thought of the danger).....I guess if I haven't died from occasionally washing my hands in gasoline for 50 years, inhaling welding fumes, getting soaked with 2-4-D, being injected with bovine vaccines, rubbing my joints with WD40........you get the picture. Just for caution, I'll only let guests drink from that cup.
