In order to build up a full time
scrap metal business you have to have steady customers, business that week after week have scrap and need it removed and do not want to or can not do it them-self. Now do not think that they the customers are not savvy enough to know that the scrap has a value, they know it has a value. The guys and gals that think they can ofer free
scrap metal removal and build up a steady business getting scrap every week are only kidding themselves. This thread is about knowing what to pay and how to get the material on a steady basis. It is also based on my personal experiences. I have always served auto repair shops, and after a while we branched out to the new car dealerships and then we picked up a couple of national chains. It was always pretty easy to approach a auto mechanic,
And say is the boss around and then when I started talking to him I would always introduce my self to him or her and say hi my name is Mike and when handing my card would say we are in the area a couple of times a week and I would like to buy your scrap metal from you, now they have many Scrappers always asking them for there scrap but not many offer to buy it from them, most of the time they would say what do you mean buy it? Well I pay 20.00 for a barrel of steel and I will supply the barrel. You pay for steel? That was always the first question yes sir $20.00 a barrel.
Most shops give there steel to a scrapper and save the rads and alternators for there monthly scrap run, the idea is to buy the steel and than every thing else, $5.00 a radiator is a good number they will save them for you, not to mention, that a barrel of steel brake rotors and a few rack and pinion thrown in weighs in at around 400-500 lbs.
I can not tell you how many rack and piņon I have sold to a core buyer for 75.00 that were in the steel barrels
Be dependable, trustworthy, and the guy that brings in a dozen donuts once in a while it will pay twofold.
