times change , crossroads, and old habits may die hard.

Well as we all know prices have been down lately. Ive pulled out of selling on amazon. I am now just selling on ebay and scrapping . I have a wire stripper and used to strip alot of wire . i would also do the math on the recovery of different cords and wire etc. So i have an idea what wires are worth what. The last month or so i havent been stripping wire due to the drop in prices and the fact i deal with extension cords 99% of the time . I feel that i should get back in it. I have a neighboor a few blocks over who scraps i met him a few months back. He told me HE DOES NOT strip his wire. Im thinking of going over to his house while hes outiside and offering him the same price the scrap yard gives which is currently $0.80 a pound. He is a painter and he does property managment at the apartments across the street from our neighboorhood. SO there is possibilty he may have some high value wire in there . and the rest ill just sell and get my money back.. any thoughts ? thinking about giving it a shot

Maybe you could work out some kind of deal where you strip is wire. Lets say he has 100 pounds of extension cord. So that would be 8 dollars. Then after you strip it you have 40 pounds of #1 Copper. So then if its at 2.70 a pound times 40 is 108. So then he takes his 8 dollars back and you split the rest 50/50. Idk if that is a good plan but it may make a good partner ship.

I would see if he would sell it for $.80 lb. Saves him a trip to the yard.

    Thanks guys.
ive learned alot about extension cords.

    10 pounds of extension cords at $ 0.80 = $8

    0.32 % (recovery) X 10 lbs = 3.2 lbs of bare bright

    Bare bright is $2.86 a #

    $2.86 X 3.2 lbs = $9.15

    $9.15 - $8.00 = $1.15 gain

gotta calculate my time or work like a 1000 workers.

Can you really get bare bright stripping extension cords? My gut feeling is this would be #1 at best, more than likely #2 due to the strand/ hair wire.
