What is this thing? What kind of metal is it??

I found this bad boy being tossed out today... Best pics I could get with my cell phone cam... Its HEAVY and SOLID weighs roughly 150-175lbs ( could barely pick it up and get it into my SUV... Its not magnetic.. though there seems to be a steel lip around the edges that is magnetic... any ideas??? my though was that it might be cast aluminum...

At first it looks like fiberglass, but hard to tell from the pictures.
Hit it with a grinder to get down to the metal (?)

Its definately not Fiberglass.. I've worked in too many boat yards lol... Its all metal... but like I said its not magnetic... It has a thin layer of plaster or paint on the outside

best pictures I can take... Its inside my SUV and too heavy to take back out... I am still tired from putting it in there in the first place...

Looks like concrete. I have seen this type of basin before. Definately hit it with a hammer.

I've had sinks like that. Think I've got one out there now. Seems like it was cast iron coated with a plaster. Look at the last picture (the underside). Kind of how bathtubs are constructed; just plaster instead of ceramic.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Cast iron would be my guess, but doesn't explain the being non-magnetic. I'd file/grind it to see what color shows through.

Sorry, was not implying any lack of knowledge in any way. Is there a chance that it is lead? If it is non magnetic, who knows?

Get that thinlayer off of there, and you can tell a bunch more. I know I have seen one of these. Just wish I had my hands on one right now. How soft is that metal that lips over the top?

Are there any marks, words or numbers on it?

Just today I was sorting through some scrap, saw a round disc that said "magic line"...looked it up since I was curious. I guess it's part of a cake pan.

I see a drain there. How big is it? Like a tub? Sink?

Where did you find it being "tossed from"? That may give us a clue as to what it might be, just a thought!
    Good Luck !!

You know...that almost looks like a fuel tank for a boat. having had boats, and working around boats all my life, yeah....it definitely looks like a fuel tank in which case it is most likely stainless steel which would explain the magnet not sticking. I am not 100% sure, but my best guess would be a stainless fuel tank that some guy painted not knowing the properties of stainless steel ( boat owners.75% clueless...lol). Let us know please.

There is a posibility that this utility sink (it is that, correct?), is made of soap stone. I am finding some on the net. I also saw someone mention a zinc lip on theirs. That may be zinc on top. Oh wait I don;t think zinc is magnetic. You said the lip was magnetic, right?

Looks like concrete sink to me.

Here is one on Craig's list. It is a double sink though. concrete 2 basin sink

Here is one on Ebay that is a single. ~Chicago Area Single Basin Concrete Laundry/Utility Sink/Flower Pot w/Stand~ | eBay

If you do a Google search for concrete sink basins and look at the images you will see more.

I agree with KeyCity. It is a sink of some sort.
Good shop sink. Set it and forget it. Beating on it will probably ruin its integrity.

The last time I checked concrete or soapstone isn't worth anything for scrap.

I hope he didn't take a hammer to it like some suggested and broke it. I think he could have gotten something for it from someone restoring an old home. If he damaged it trying to figure out what it was it would have been landfill material which is worthless.
