I invested in a pair of red wing athletic shoes that have aluminum toe. They are little bit lighter than my steel toe work boots. Cost was $125 and also bought a insole for comfort. It was expensive, but it was a write off for me.

I have a pair of composite toe from Shoes for Crews.
I am in love with Shoes for Crews footwear. Its not stylish, but its the most durable and water resistance brand I have found. Also, all of their shoes have non slip bottoms... and here in MN it makes a HUGE difference in the winter
Mine are a pair of Wrangler boots. I think I paid $35 for them on sale. Steel toe. They aren't CAT's, but they're not bad.

Eddie Bauer $97 pair of steel toed. Had them for 2 years and still in good condition, wouldn't go working without them

My main concern is comfort. I really like the CATERPILLAR FLEXION sole with soft toe. The sole flexes a lot which helps if you have to swat down or kneel a lot while working. As another member mentioned the steel toe/ composite toe shoes cause a little too much discomfort. Here is the link to the shoe:
