I've started to dip my toe into the "Pay for goods" world as well. Once I graduated to hauling cars the days of "Free" was gone. That led me to finding opportunities that.. yes.. sometimes you have to pay for.

I got a call a few months back from a guy who did some welding for me. He said his neighbor had a washer, a dryer, a dishwasher and 3 car batteries. Would I have loved to get all of that for FREE? You bet your butt... But- he wanted a few dollars. I did a quick calculation before I went and was willing to offer $25 bucks. He himmed and hawed but in the end I told him- "Listen I've got to make it worth my time and gas to break down and haul this stuff" I give you $25 bucks for the stuff and it is out of your life.. then it is up to me to work to make the money back and have it be worth my effort"

I made about about $60 bucks profit.. but without putting out the $.. I would have made nothing! So I get where you are coming from 1956!!!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
