any tips about scrapping cars??

i just got a 20 foot car trailer and mounted a winch on it so im ready to start scrapping cars i yt to scrap cars so i could use some tips, I know to alway cut the cat off, take the car battery and the cables what els shoul i strip off befor brining it to the yard? oh yeah where do you get the freon taken out at??? any advice would be great

As most have pointed out, snatch the usual, Radiators, Cats, AL Rims, etc.
I also snatch the wiring harness, as much as possible, and sell it for insulated copper. I usually get 15-20lbs of wire per car. A lot of your older cars have AL door jams that can be unscrewed or ripped out with a crowbar.
I will look over the intake on some of the new cars that are AL, and if it will snatch easily, it goes in too.
I may spend an extra 2 hours snatching things, but it adds up in the end.

what should i pay for scrap cars most junk yards will come with a tow truck and give you any where from 100 to 200 a car so im sure i should advitize that i pay for junk cars or should i?

Those of you who scrap cars on a large scale: Have you ever thought about saving them up till you have the refinery's required amount, then taking them to the refinery? When you get the payout from that........you'd be sittin good for a awhile. That is what I am going to start doing. I think that 1000-1500 saved cats a year then I could take them all in in 3 years.........not that bad right? For A HUGE PAYOUT! What do you think?

If you do advertise........I think 150 would be a descent number to buy at. Let us know if you do that because we'd all like to see how you grow with that aspect of scrapping!

I pay depending on the weight of the car. Anything else: al wheels, batts, copper, cat converter I don't take into account on my offer price. I try to make $100.00 from the weight only.
I just did a aerostar minivan I bought it for $200 and I got $320 for the van. I took the battery, wheels and copper in on another load. Saved the cat for later.
I like to leave myself some wiggle room for profit incase the price goes down from when I buy a car to when I take it in.

I have been doing this for awhile and i will tell you the higher you pay the more you can get.Also you have to know what the yard is paying and determine what that is per pound.Then whatever car you try and buy find out the curb weight minus 200 from it just to give you alittle room then the remaining times that buy the weight that you have figured and there you go.Also try and by them where when you haul them in you make your money back.Then it is like you have the batt,wheels,converter all for free basically.

I buy them and haul them in sometimes i get my money back and sometimes might be short say $25-$50 so i figure i got that in the the wheels,batt,and vert so i still make 150+ on that car.You just need to learn whats what.

Yeah but you would have to have nothing in you converters because if you held them that long and you had to pay for them you would lose money.becuase the converter prices change every single week.The prices for them are based on the stock market.Also you need atleast 500 to sale to the refinery its self.But then again to do that and buy them you better have some big money to tie up for awhile.Because once you do take them to the refinery you have to wait up to 3 months or more after words to get paid.So it isnt as easy as it sounds.

Starter,alternator,ac pump. For resale remove airbags, those can bring 100$-400$.

I think that a collision shop would buy most reusable parts.

All i do is look up the curb weight on google. I never offer more than curb weight. Say a car weighs 3500 pounds, I wouldnt pay more than 350. If you can get it for less than curb weight, you'll do well.

Yeah but half of the time that stuff is wrong.You need to know how much the cat and wheels are.If you live in a big city where everybody does it then you have to pay top dollar and only make $100 or so.

thats not real big.Seems around everyone does the scrapping thing so i pay big to get the cars.
I am more than happy to make $100-$150 per car
