Need your help to land contract asap!!!

    Good afternoon Scrappers!!!

SO I finally finished setting up my business website, my business certificate, bank account, etc... and have landed my first customer. I work full time for a large Peristaltic Pump Company, and on average we have a few thousand lbs of Boards and Aluminum that gets scrapped.

I spoke with my employer, and he has agreed to give me this E-Scrap as long as I get it removed in a timely fashioned, and do not end up on the 6 o'clock news for illegal business practices (LOL).

The only requirement he asked for was for documentation of the business (which I have) and certification that we can safely dispose of this E-Waste. We are only the middle man in this, meaning we will pick up, segregate and sell to Scrap Buyers in Massachusetts. As I am not R2 Certified, can you advise what I can do? Perhaps get certification from the company buying the scrap?

Does anyone have a template or something they've used in the past? I am also a member of the Scrap Room, in case its in a post in there as well...

PLEASE ADVISE SCRAP GODS as I have until Wednesday to reply...

If you know your buyers, you could ask the boss man if that will suffice. As in..."I'm point A an will get it safely to point b, who is r2 certified etc etc an the down stream is taken care of on their end. blah blah blah"

Obviously make it sound better, but be honest is my point. Tell him your the middle man if you want, but that your buyers are R2 certified an you can provide proof, etc etc. Explain as the middle man your breaking things down for your buyers so everything is recycled properly.

I think that made sense. If not..maybe someone less confusing will explain it better.

    Good luck.

Obviously my wisdom was enough that nobody needed to reply.

You should take that as a sign.

    Sirscrapalot - yes..I'm kidding.

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

I agree with Sirscrapalot. I haven't been asked on proof of destruction very often, but here's what I'd do:

What truck are you using to haul with? Go enclosed if you can. Go straight back to your processing center, and unload immediately.

Take photos while processing for documentation. Photgraph serial numbers. And, remove them and give them back to the customer if possible.

Use only R2/Estewards certified downline processors to keep the customer happy here. We have plenty on the buyer's threads.

Physically destroy, or wipe with proof of destruction, all hard drives.

    That's what I'd do.

I think if you would ask your buyer for a copy of their R2 certification that would probably fit your bosses requirements. I know from experience that has worked for me and when I shipped the material I kept a copy of the labels or BOL's to show if ever asked to see if I was shipping to a R2 facility

This along with Sir Scrap's advice shows a paper trail of where the material is coming from and going. That should ease the concern of the company you are trying to deal with. Put yourself in his shoes, he's probably read a few ewaste horror stories and doesn't want to be in the headlines. Just ease his concerns with some paperwork and demonstrate with a sense of "this is what I do for my other customers" to add a touch of professionalism and that should seal the deal

Hmmm... but the paperwork from your end buyer that you hand into your boss could effectively remove you as the middle man if your boss is smart.
