aluminum wire price?

My friend who does demolition got some aluminum wire. Here in fl they wanted documentation on the demo. Long story short I have it now. I know a place. what price is being offered on 1 inch thick insulated aluminum wire. Last time I tried to stip some it was too tough. I tried scrap monster and some websites but could not find any pricing. Thanks in advance. Tim.

I have stripped wire like that fairly easily before, if you are interested in getting a better price. Just lay it out flat and take an angle grinder with a thin metal cutoff wheel and run it down the length of the insulation. As the insulation is stiff you will probably need to do both sides. In the end you have clean aluminum.

I've done lots of that kind of wire....I cut into about 18" lengths, put it in a vise, and use a drawknife.

A drawknife is a carpentry tool--take a look on google images--it is a blade with a handle on each end which allows you to put some power into pulling it.

Works like a charm.

There's some discussion on SMF from about 18 months ago about stripping heavy insulation.

Draw knife works good, I don't think they sell them at the big box stores (can't remember when last time I saw one sold). A good wood workers tool too!

Do yourself a favor and sell it as insulated.
I went overboard stripping some EC WIRE because I have the equipment to use. When all said and done I wished I never wasted my time stripping it.

I assume you are not talking about #1 insulated copper wire. If so, and that is what they give you for it, they screwed themselves and you made out like a bandit.

Notice kevath is in Canada, so the pricing needs to be translated to USD

Its a pain to strip, and there are several methods. Try a few and you may find one you like. Best not to strip it in winter.
