    Locksmiths

Just wondering if anyone has had success with getting items from locksmiths. It seems that they'd be a nice source
What strategy is a good one in getting them to come aboard

A friend of mine used to be a locksmith and mentioned this to me. Turns out there's only one independent smithie left around here and he takes care of his scrap. The rest of the business has been consumed by towing companies and electronic entry systems. Still worth a try to ask around and see what they say though. Good luck.

I realize this is an old thread, but there used to be quite a few locksmiths and lock shops around(in fact I know one that's out of business). If they haven't thrown the inventory and supplies away yet, it's probably stored away in their garages or sheds. The key blanks were mostly brass and so was the lock set inserts with brass tumblers. If you know an old family friend/ or a friend of a friend that used to be a locksmith, might be worth something to at least ask what happened to the stock. Just a thought on a rainy night,,,
