If someone brings me a 3 inch copper pipe with a 1# steel nut on it, I'm gonna buy it as steel. Steel out weighs the copper piping and I have to run the shear to clean it. Other CU breakage I pay 10 cents a pound for *if* it contains a lot of wire and/or copper. If its mostly steel weight I'm gonna buy it as steel.
Brass on the other hand is easier to break down/clean. I don't usually deduct unless its meters which are half and half. At that point, we deduct half. I have to take them apart by hand and you sure aren't going to get full brass price for the product.
Plus, you say you have a gaylord full. No way in heck am I gonna set that gaylord on my scale and pay you breakage price not knowing if you have the bottom half fluffed with steel.
