You would have to have rocks in your head to buy a 100 year old house at replacement value. It's not a rational choice. Still .... some people buy based upon how they "feel" about a thing. For them, the old places have sentimental value.
It's a very real thing. If you can keep an open mind and be tolerant there's a lot of money to be made from doing business with these people.
Same / same with a Viking. From a common sense point of view a fridge is just a fridge. It's absurd to pay seven grand when you could buy a very nice fridge at Home Depot for a fraction of the cost.
Still .... the Viking is a
status symbol. Some people have to surround themselves with the finer things in life because it makes them feel good about themselves. You can't put a price on that.
