What machine do you use to strip your cable with?
What machine do you use to strip your cable with?
I'd like to hear some opinions on this too. I have been looking but have a hard time justifying the price of at least $150 for one. seems like it would take a lot of wire stripping to make up that cost.
I have a handheld that cost me $50. Works okay but it is hard on the hands and wrist. I would prefer one that I could hook a drill to but the U.S. made ones I have seen have a price of more than $200, closer to $300. I'd really like something that can strip stranded wire with ease.
Unless you can see a serious volume that will be consistent I would not buy one. keep in mind the time you spend stripping wire could be used in other hunting gathering activities of your business.
I had a nice one that I paid about $110.00 on ebay for and added a 1/2" drill from harbor freight which worked well. I bolted the stripper to a small table that I could move around my shop. It worked well and I had planned to add a foot switch which harbor freight also sells but got rid of the set up.
I did not have a good supply of insulated wire and my business turned to different direction.
Here is a link to a similar machine to the one I owned. I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS MACHINE. I don't wrong with it I am just using the ad to show what mine looked like In fact I did a thread with photos and it should still be in the old threads somewhere. 73, Mike

A buddy of mine used a cast saw for larger cable. Worked perfectly. Strap cable down in vise and slit the rubber. Works good for heavy battery cables and other big cables. You obviously can find one for free or cheaper, but this listings shows what Im talking about.
All else fails you can get a diamond cutting blade for the grinder and use that. Diamond blade will cut the rubber, other cut off wheel just melts it.

Listen to Mike. I bought one for 250. sold it on Ebay after less than a year. I found that doing extension cords and computer power cords was making me less than a dollar an hour. Drill machine wasn't very efficient. I took a loss to sell it, but I'm glad I did. Better ways to grow my business with that time.
I own a Stripmeister Original. StripMeister Original Automatic Wire Stripping Machine - StripMeister Wire Stripping Machine
Not cheap but it works good.

I just bought a strip meister original drill powered and it's got a gripper that bends minor kinks out of wires not as like in the video . It can get stuck with romex the outside jacket the white and black wires goes through really well. Even did some 4/0 aluminum since that's harder insulation so much faster than using razor knife and easier on the hands no more finger cramps from hours of stripping haha. The one thing I don't like is I can't put xhhw in as is the hole isn't big enough . I'd first have to take outside jacket off then I can run it through. Works pretty well . It does come off track occasionally. I'm amazed how easily it goes through the aluminum.
