Pewter

Hope everyone is doin' alright.

Been a while since I've been on.


I called my LSY today inquiring about pewter and if they had any they wanted to sell. They took it as I wanted to sell and offered me $.50/# for whatever I had. I laughed and asked if they were selling pewter, because I would like to buy some more for personal use. They replied that they didn't have any to sell.


I see that there isn't anyone buying pewter on the SMF anymore? Is there people looking to sell? Should I be the new buyer? I'm considering getting more into the pewter/lead/semi precious metals game. But that is probably better for another thread.

I feel there is a market for this. I think you would need to make sure items are marked for one price and another price for un marked items. Good luck.

I honestly didn't think there was a market for pewter. I know that I have sent some to the landfill in the past.

Pewter is still used in the toy figure industry. Reaper Miniatures and Games Workshop are the two biggies. I know they sometimes will mix in scrap pewter with their melts.

I've been buying it and selling it for a while. Wouldn't be a full time gig. Would look into the lead part too for bullet casters.

I've melted down into ingots before. Just kinda tired of my flipping items lately, been tired of the Ebay deals with people, and would like to simplify some of my side business potentially.

Would be looking at 2.50-3.00/# for non food grade and 3-3.50/# for food grade... Ish. Havent calculated in my time and efforts into making the ingots and shipping

Thought the corn cobs were kinda cute. I have one of those cast iron cornbread pans getting rusty outside right now. I suspect it is just easier to handle in ingots?

I've seen it go on eBay as low as 4/#, and as high as 12-15/#

I think it comes down to repeat buyers. The ingots are much easier to work with for the people doing the casting. For instance, i have a thick pewter serving tray that is about a 16x13 oval with a thick lip around it. Much easier to work with in ingot form vs that huge plate. But if you arent an established seller, you might not command that higher price at first.
