Hooked on metal - question on Bed Frames

Just found this forum today. Tore down an old above ground pool and loaded up the aluminum sides and decking. It was good clean stuff and figured I might get 2 or $300 for the metal. They gave me .85 /lb for painted aluminum and I walked out with over $500. Now I am hooked on finding more metal. I am always seeing folks throwing out old bed frames. Are these worth picking up and what kind of metal is that? Any advice on where to find good info on the different types of metals that yards take would be appreciated. Thanks.

They are somewhat worth it, the metal is steel and worth around $0.10/lb. You can visit websites that companies may have and they may the types of metals they buy and for how much. If they don't have a website you can always give them a call and ask what their prices are.

First, welcome to the forum and to the whole scrapping gig.

Bed frames are steel. I don't think i've ever encountered one that was anything else. As for info on metal, the forum is full of it. We have threads covering everything from your standard metals to electronic waste to precious and rare earth metals and everything in between. Keep reading and if there isn't a thread about what you want to know or you don't understand something, feel free to ask.

Bed frames are the one item I use plastic gloves to pick up and take straight to the firepit to burn any crap off of it (i.e. bedbugs). You are right, they are everywhere so they add up quickly. So I'd say they are worth it if you can store your steel. Nice job on the pool by the way and welcome to the forums

Metal springs in most but most the weight is in the padding and cloth so not really worth it imho. I have cut around the bedding in the middle and peeled it off but that was mostly because my trash man won't take it as is. Scrapped the springs and tossed the cloth/foam.
