    A Ton

You need to figure out how your yard pays you. There are many different ways...
gross ton (long ton) 2240 lbs.
    metric ton (tonne) 2205 lbs.
net ton (short ton) 2000 lbs.

even if they pay you per 100 pounds you should know if that's net, metric or gross

When I started scrapping around 2011, the 2 main yards I always used both advertised price per net ton. Seemed like all the sudden a couple years ago they all wised up and started playing the wording game to pull a fast one on the customer. But good post hobo, definitely always ask, know one likes to be taken advantage of.

Some yards have different weight payments on different categories
By me steel is bought by the gross ton and cars by the net ton.
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest days work. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.- Old Man
