stuff i saw at a gas station

we stopped at a gas station not in town and i saw wires and some shelves around it seemed like a cruddy thing. i was tempted to go in and ask that i recycle and that i saw some wire on the side of the building next to the kerosene fill up thing.

i didnt know if it was attached or not so i didnt touch it they might have thought i was going to steal it if i had you how people are they assume the worst things=(

has anyone asked a gas station if they had any scrap and if they had success? my thinking is if something breaks that they just chuck it in the dumpster and i would think that they could not be bothered with it.




i could have gotten a a/c years ago from our gas station but i didnt have no way to transport it. i can just wheel a dolly into town and put big things on it beats using gas and having to lift it lol.



i was also wandering if they could legally just put stuff by the side of the building like that next to kerosene i thought it was kind of weird myself.

yeah i will try it and hopefully i get some good stuff=) did you know you can get 40 dollars from a fridge the electric company picks it up and gives you money lots more then scrap i think they do it cause of the freon thats in it am i right?

There are programs in Massachusetts like that. Go to Masssaves.com. currently 2 fridges a year per residential account if your supplier is participating. Must be working and it is $50. They are also having a dehumidifier program. 1 day, 2 per residential account, $30 gift card per dehumifier. Must be working.

It is NOT because of the freon. Utility companies get money to make thier systems more efficient. Sometimes, they determine that it is more cost effective to remove inefficient appliance than to upgrade the system.

You can pretty much leave anything alongside a building you own, anyplace, and unless it's on fire or EPA-regulated, there's no harm in it. A local hoarder has 20# propane tanks lining his 100' driveway like garden gnomes and, while it's an eyesore and a pretty dumb way to store them, he isn't really in trouble unless he tries to stuff them in a garbage bag and toss them. To be clear, he takes advantage of the Wal-Mart refill deal but hasn't really figured out that there are still tons of non-OPD tanks out there so every time he gets more, about half are worthless. I assume he gets stuck with all the "freebies" that everyone else is smart enough to know are just a problem for themselves. The sad part is that, with every junk tank he gets saddled with, the cost of disposing of his collection goes up, making it even more expensive to deal with what was already a costly pile of tanks.

Anyway, on the main topic, be wary of any wires clipped to a fuel tank or drum. That's an easy and approved way of grounding a metal container so that static or other small charges won't spark the contents. Give that service station attendant a high-five for observing a simple safety trick that benefits everyone and doesn't cost a thing.
