Check the pics on the various cat recycling websites (Rockaway Recycling for example). Often after market converters have brand names on them like Magnaflow.

i dont plan on stripping it all just the easy things like the blower motor the wires from the engine area and other easily gotten things i plan on leaving the engine alone do you strip the battery cables?
You mean the easy and profitable things, the things most desirable at the yard. Again be prepared for the consequences described above if you try to get people to haul a car you already stripped.

Once a car is stripped of parts you either need to find the most reliable car buyer in your area to pay you for it, or a guy like me who comes with a toyota tacoma and sawzall, and takes it for free and then listens to all the complaints about how no one with a wrecker would take it because it was stripped. But if you do choose to strip it any way cut the Cat, if its got Aluminum rims take them, battery, alternator, ac compressor, rads, alternator, starter, window wiper motor, wire harness, if its got an aluminum engine pull that and the tranny, you can do all that except the cat without going under it but the cat could be worth $50 and takes 2 minutes to take off. If you strip the insulation of the wire harness your a fool. Takes too much time and you get nothing on the return. And like I said the car would then be considered light iron after all that so keep that in mind when no towing service wants to pay you.
Some Hyundai catalytic converters are worth over $100 each. There is an easy to read set of codes on the heat shield usually.

It doesn't appear that Mike1 is listening to the ones that are trying to warn him about removing the "easy parts".

    Hello,
    Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
    Is there anyone at home?

I can provide a free quote if you have a picture of the catalytic converter. Rockaway sometimes pays half price on some converters, I wouldn't go by there pricing.

Stock cats generally have a bunch of O2 sensors on them and some will be stamped with the make and part number. Aftermarket are usually welded on and dont have o2 sensors on them. They generally just look cheaper as well but sometimes its hard to tell. You need the honey comb thing in there to make it worth anything. Theres brass in the radiator ends sometimes and sometimes in the heater core. And generally no i don't strip anything. But now i got a stripper machine so i would have to see it to make that call. I generally just snip off what i can and sell as harness wire. The black plastic stuff around the wire makes handling stuff like this way harder than it needs to be and i got other things to get so spending an hour just to get anextra dollar on my battery cables aint really worth it to me.

And any part that comes off your car the yard will deduct for generally. Even if you only pull the battery and alternator the price will go down slightly. If you have a guy hauling for you and paying you $200 he is only making about $80 on your car if the yard hes taking it to pays similar to ours. If he gets it for $200 with missing parts that he doesnt check for and the yard knocks him down just $.50/hundred now hes out roughly $20. If they find enough to kick him down to light iron hes now making about $10. That guy would also be doing all the work for you, spending his gas, beating up his truck, and spending all the expenses himself to move your car. If you were in his shoes would you want more than $10 to haul a car at your expense? This is what everyone is trying to say without actually saying it. If you want your $200 for your car have the title and keep it as complete as you can. If you strip it yeah you might be getting money for the good stuff but you will be doing alot of work and will loose way more on the car than what you'll gain if the wrecker guy actually checks your car and sees stuff missing.

generally the only reason i take cars apart is because i only run 1/4 ton trucks and loading complete cars by hand myself is near impossible. I just did one today but we cut it into thirds and it still took 3 guys and a really steep hill to get it on the trailer.

hm i see well we dont actually have the title to it anymore and plus the radiator is already gone so nothing can be done about that. the black plastic stuff i found a car part along the roadside and it had wires in it

i found if i just cut one end off the wires come out of the plastic tube crap easy. if your talking about the electrical tape on the wires it would be like a tv degausing cable.

i cut them with a box cutter since i have nothing but time now if you are short on time it would be better to just take wires in as insulated but i generally dont if i can help it. if its a 2003 does that mean its got a ali heater core just like the radiator and i thought brass was only on the older cars/trucks?

I am unsure about what your heater core is made from since I normally deal with older cars. But if you lost your title check with your state about how hard/expensive it would be to get a new one. If you still can't get/aquire one you pretty much gotta strip everything out of it, cut it in half and if i remember correctly your the guy with no car, so i would advise getting a kobolt wheel barrow and walking the pieces to the yard yourself. But be advised the back half is 800lbs give or take, and the front with no engine about the same. With engine roughly 1,500lbs to upwards of a ton. Ive moved cars like that before and believe me its anything but easy and you'll really be tested both mentally and physically. If you cant handle that find someone like me who will cut it up and haul it for you. You wont get anything for the steel if someone like me hauls it though. So your best bet still is to ask your state about the title before you touch any more pieces on that car. Texas charged me like $10 or $50 i think to get a brown boardered copy of the title I lost before I sold one of my trucks. If you do it that way you can still make money on the car not having to do anything more than call a number and possibly fill out some papers. If you strip it with out having the means to do so I can garuntee you that your gonna be sorry.

    .
I bring my Cars to the Walter Zion yard
They do NOT deduct >> Right now getting $100.00 per ton (2000#) or .05 a pound
I sell the battery to a guy that comes to me on an as needed basis and pays more then I could get if I haul them in myself >> More power to him and less work for me
Alternator, starter, AC Compressor and other cores (ECM's, calipers and so on) are pulled and go to RAS In Coventry RI
All harness wire I can get in 10 minutes is pulled and sold separate to Zions for .50 a pound current price
Aluminum radiators, ac units are pulled and sold separate to Zions
Aluminum rims are pulled and sold separate to Zions
Good tires sold to local tire shop >> REALLY good tires sold with craigs help
And of course the Cats are pulled and saved (as long as the price continues to go up) for my retirement fund

I am currently paying $100.00 for average size cars and another $50.00 if they have aluminum rims
More work for me means less money for them >> No keys or no title pays less

Here in MA no title needed if the car is over 10 years old

I have had more that one person get bent out of shape when showed up to get a "complete" car and it was striped. I have walked away from more than one when they refused to take less. Several of those are still sitting right where they were a couple of years ago.

They don't understand that complete means every freaking part it left the factory with, with very minor exceptions.
