question about ac rads

Air conditioning tonnage has nothing to do with weight. A ton, as used in the HVAC field, is a term that describes how much heat the AC unit can remove from a home in one hour. The measurement for heat is the British thermal unit (BTU). One ton of air conditioning can remove 12,000 BTUs of air per hour. A four ton unit can move 48, 000 BTUs and so on. Therefore, the more tonnage an AC unit is rated at, the more air it can cool.

i could barely lift the tank i think my scale said 60 some lbs? the compressor was on the outside of the radiator and not in the center is this common? most central ones i have seen it was in the middle. the radiator said 38lbs and then when i took the sides off and steel it said 34lb is that right? now i figured it out i think if its 34$ just for the way it is now and its 39.10 after i strip the ali off the tubes what do you think is it worth it?

is it really 50/50 weight and would it be 17lbs cu and 17lb ali? would this be a 5 ton?

From my experience the only constant in air conditioners is they are inconsistent in design, materials, and scrap value. Freon Joe is the resident expert in my opinion.

Previous threads have identified the following elements to determine the value of scrapping items:
1. Time involved in preparation and paying yourself - my time is worthless because scrapping is a type of therapy.
2. Amount of room one can devote to storage - mine is large.
3. Knowledge of components and their value on the secondary market - I refer to this forum and many other web sites to determine this variable.
4. Type of tools and knowledge needed for preparing and the return of investment both monetarily and time devoted.

It is obvious this did not answer your questions, but you have taken the first step in analyzing your situation. Now add in the other variables and you will have the answer for your business model. Please share the results.
