broken push mower?

i was thinking instead of scrapping it i would try and post it on fb or craigslist but not sure what to list as a price point? i was thinking 100$ or best offer? what do you think i'll get out of it? its a old lawn boy the only thing is it starts and then quits used it last year and now poof=( i mow the yard for my grandma lol. i called a place that is suposed to buy them and they said they would only scrap it=(

I have a guy that buys dead mowers for $10 to $20 each, if they are somewhat modern looking / decent shape, but if they are too old or crusty, often skips them (or if they have the Tecumseh engine, he hates those), any he don't want, I toss in the sheet pile.

You'll likely never get $100 for a non running push mower, maybe $10-$20 depending on brand / model. CL is place to put it, and maybe APPs like Offerup. I don't use Facebook, but apparently a place to sell things, so might as well list there too.


If it starts and then quits, the carb is likely plugged, get a can of carb cleaner and watch some youtube vids on cleaning it, take maybe a half an hour to do, should run fine afterwards, especially since it ran only a year ago. Then you can ask a higher price, but depends on condition, how old, any accessories etc.

I get a bunch of dead mowers, like I said I have a guy that buys them, but I fixed a few for myself. Have been using a nice fairly new Toro the last few years, just needed a carb cleaning! Truthfully, I never bother with the spark plug, or even air filter unless it has caked with water / mold. If it runs for like 3 - 5 seconds then shuts off, it is likely a dirty carburetor. Grab a can of carb cleaner, and watch a youtube vid on cleaning it if you've never done it. And yeah, dump out any old gas that has been sitting a while.

Fully running used mowers, sell for anywhere between $50 and $150, just depends on how old, condition, brand / model / features / accessories, etc. I just sold a great running Lawn Boy with self propel that was missing shroud (the top plastic with brand name on it) for $35, was supposed to be $40, but the guy showed up and "only had $35", which is a BS tactic to get something cheaper, especially since there were several others that wanted it for 40, which was already deal. But I was helping some out out selling it, so just wanted it sold, lol.

If you don't feel like trying to get it running, I'd list it as a tech special for $25 OBO and hope to get $10 $15 or so, if it were me.

Around here $100.00 is tops on a used mower. I sell mine for $40 - $75 running and take it gladly. If it's not running and gonna require more than $10 or $15 to fix it I take offer or scrap it.

I would think that $20-40 would be a fair price for a decent used push mower (electric or gas operated). You can probably find several for sale in this price range at Goodwill. $100 sounds like WAY too much.
