"That pile sure looks small - i'll skip it"

My advice is don't skip it, especially if taking a risk costs virtually no fuel.

Within 2 miles of the scrapyard a pile of "free scrap metal" was beside a curb on CL. In the picture, it didn't look like much. It sat there for 3 hours. I went by after I had already unloaded one load. It was there and good thing I didn't have anything on the truck because I wouldn't have been able to carry all 500lbs of iron and steel construction/remodel scrap. Also got some copper that wasn't visible in the picture.

Within 3 miles of the scrapyard same deal an even smaller pile sat for 2 hours. I got it and I actually sat there for 45 minutes hoping another scrapper would come by and split it with me cause the iron was so heavy and stuck out a good 3.5 feet over my tailgate and my bumper was nearly stuck on the curb with 3 out of the 4 - I don't know what they were sitting there. I could hardly move them by myself, that's why I was waiting - the ad said "must take all". A "metal artist" came by and I helped him take one. His full size Ram sagged with just one huge iron post (?) in there.

Quality vs quantity sometimes pays bigger. I agree
