My humble amateur part-time advice is if you can't make it on time or at all that day, contact them and let them know. Have some integrity. I don't know if this happens to you all as well but about half of the time when I respond to a CL ad as the second person - I end up getting all the stuff because of no shows.
I responded to a CL ad for some "
scrap metal". The ad read "2 water heaters, cast iron tub and a bunch of random scrap metal". Didn't sound like much right? I was told it was spoken for and if they didn't show up, he would contact me. He contacted me because of the person just never showed up no call or text back just a no show. 5 hours after the person was supposed to show, I picked up the scrap as scheduled.
I needed a bigger truck but I made it work, I know from experience of how my truck was begging for mercy that I had ~1100 lbs total at that one stop. I was
stunned at the amount of copper, brass and aluminum + a stainless steel sink. Honestly I thought he was going to say - "you can take it all besides the copper" but he didn't. In addition to the very heavy cast iron tub (broken into pieces because the two of them couldn't move it downstairs), there was a very heavy cast iron bathroom sink (with brass and copper).
This morning before work I cashed in 95% of the ferrous and about 1/2 the brass just to get it out of the way, I still have a bunch of brass to cut off the copper. SO much copper pipe and solid core copper wire. The brass (~half of it) was 17lbs and 640lbs of ferrous. So I have tons of aluminum in my back yard, tons of copper pipe and #1 solid core copper wire (in my garage). I have a few heavy motors in the back yard now as well, all this from one trip someone did a no show to.
