hi need help on buying a spool of wire

i went to the recycle today and saw a partial spool of wire on it. its got 3 wires in it and it looks bigger or maybe its 10gauge each wire so each wire would be 10gauge or bigger. if the yard guy lets me buy one would i have to pay for the spool to or will they unwind it and just let me pay for the insulated wire? what price is a good price and what will burn me?

According to Google, 10-3 wire costs $1.10 to $1.70 per foot ( new ).
Edit: $0.78 +- per foot in 1,000 foot spools ... possible cheaper in bulk orders

You would probably be buying the spool also. I can't imagine it weighing enough to worry about.
