    Good source for aluminum scrap

Hi all! If you're not already doing it, hardware stores that sell custom windows and window shops produce a lot of aluminum scrap as part of sizing custom windows, sliding doors and screens. An example is this box I processed today [pictured]. Depending on their scale they might be willing to separate by grade. Otherwise offer based upon painted aluminum/old sheet price and take the upgrade by sorting out the painted 6063 Al extrusion (and some bare 6063 too) which currently is nearly twice the price of old sheet here in Las Vegas. All custom window shops will produce this scrap. Maybe there's an opportunity to be their scrap person. The client that brought us this load brought in just shy of 2000lbs of which around 35% of the weight is 6063 extrusion and the remainder old sheet/painted aluminum.

Even if taken at the lowest price here (about 20 cents a pound right now), I would tale it off their hands and spend the hour or so separating it while listening to tv. Good tip!
