Scrap Yards that SELL in SLC or Las Vegas?

Been a while since I posted here, I am now out in the middle of BFE Nv and needing some steel, closest major cities are Salt Lake City, or Las Vegas. I realize that I may need to buy what is needed new for my immediate projects, but its really not enough to justify the 4 hour one way drive. I could justify the drive if I could get other miscellaneous steel from a scrap yard, I need lots of assorted sizes of round stock, plate, channel, angle etc, not full 20' lengths, just bits and pieces to use as needed.

So are there any scrap yards in the Salt Lake city area or Las Vegas area that sell to the public?

NV Salvage on Owens in Las Vegas will sell to the public but their steel is primarily from auto, demolition and appliances. Champion Recycling on Meade also will and they're a little more likely to have what you're looking for. The others sell only to businesses. Closer to you, last I knew Rocky Mountain in St George also sold to the public. Don't know what kind of steel they generally have but recall large quantities that I didn't really look at.

Thanks JJ! I called Champion yesterday, they told me no sales to public, I've got a big old boiler gracing my backyard, maybe I'll load it up and get my foot in the door. When you say the others "only sell to business" do you mean bulk sales to the refiners, or just that I need an NV business license, or can I just flash a business card? St George might be a little closer, just don't go that route too often, next time I do I will check out Rocky Mountain and see what they have, might give me a reason to go there more often.

What kind of materials do you get? I'm setting up a little machine shop and could use any clean solid round stock from 1" to 6" diameter, if you get any of that in fair quantity I make it down to LV every few months.

The steel from the other yards locally goes to SA Recycling so far as I know and they don't sell except to smelters and for export. Champion grew their operation substantially over the last couple years so maybe they changed policy. The person to talk to there is Jason. At NV Salvage the persons are Huascar or Todd. I deal very little in ferrous. I have a couple plate steel clients who I get mostly 1/8" remnants from cnc sign cutting mostly. Not a lot, maybe 1 ton per month. Mostly too small do much with.
