The ends can be brass or copper . I leave them on when selling as insulated wire. I also leave small switches or parts of switches on the wires . As long as there isn't any ferrous metal showing it hasn't been a problem. You can leave the wires attached to most things but may have to smack with a hammer to break loose the parts containing ferrous metal .
